You all have inspired me in some way and its mostly been to get back in touch with my creative side. I have many ideas floating around in my head that I will be posting about in the weeks to come. The chairs…pt. 2

image

So my sis and I were finally able to really take a good look at the chairs. The final verdict you ask??? This is probably a job better left for a professional or at least some one more skilled than the two of us. I believe I will take my sisters advice and the next stretch of nice weather I will take them outside strip off all 3 (yes 3) layers of progressively horrible upholstery and let the wood breathe and dry out. Once we get down to the bones we may decide that we can indeed do this ourselves ( which would thrill me beyond words) if not well…….they will still get the love and attention they require. Will post more as we go along 🙂
p.s. we’ve determined the bottom layer of upholstery to be from the 50’s but its in horrible shape which is kind of sad because it’s by far the nicest looking of the 3 layers.

Some good things

I am suffering through the second day of one of the worst headaches I’ve ever had in my life. This is the type of headache you go to bed with and you can still feel it while you sleep. Horrible, horrible stuff. Before people start freaking out and I have EMTs show up at my house let me say its all due to stress! Ok, anyway so as I’m trying to make my way through this headache and keep from snapping my children in two I thought I should bake something and share. I will share but I didn’t bake this (and really its for my sister, Ms. As is home) also if you don’t really like to bake stop reading……..now:
Strawberry Pillows
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3 3oz packages cream cheese softened
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1/2 10oz jar strawberry (pick your fav) preserves
1/2 cup walnuts
1 egg beaten
Early in day: into bowl measure flour, cream cheese, and butter. With mixer at low speed, beat ingredients until well mixed, occasionally scraping sides w/ spatula. Cover and chill at least 1 hr. While waiting prepare filling: in small bowl stir preserves and nuts; set aside.
To bake: preheat oven to 450° F divide dough in half. Refrigerate one half. On well floured surface, roll with rolling pin, thinly roll out dough into large rectangle. Cut into small rectangles 3″ by 2″. Place1/2 tsp of filling close to 2 inch end of fold of each rectangle. Fold dough over filling bringing ends together, with a fork dipped in flour press edges together. Brush with egg and place on cookie sheet. Bake 12 minutes or until golden brown. Place cookies on wire rack to cool. Reroll trimings for more cookies. Makes about 3 1/2 dozen.
Happy baking 🙂 p.s. there are some easier recipes for this on the web but this one is in one of my old school cookbooks and it seemed easier to do than the others I found. Again happy baking.

Trying new things

I was given these chairs from my new next door neighbors. I know, I know, I know you don’t even have to say it. When the 70’s died the bad upholstery should of gone with it. My neighbors were going to” throw the chairs away but I see potential in them so in a joint effort with my orginal partner in doin stuff Ms. As is home herself we are going to tackle these chairs and make them the objects of beatuy I know they can be. This will be a totally new thing for me so hopefully it’ll go well. As things progress I’ll keep y’all posted.

Merrily we roll along

I apologize for my lack of post for the last week. It’s been a very laid back low key week for me as it’s my last week before school starts. Monday should prove to be interesting, I am still waiting to see if I will get into my Biology class (praying that I do I am now down to number 9 so hopefully). This week has also been a bonding week for me and my sis (as is home – really should check out her blog good stuff I tell ya). She just came back home after being gone for a year. I missed that girl like crazy I’m not even going to lie. She’s been having a good time (I hope) hanging out with her niece and nephews and laughing daily at this comdey I star in called my home life. As you can see there really isn’t much going on here currently just real low key unless you count my mood swings……they’ve been driving everyone crazy especally me. Today will be ummmmm….. different. There is a desk in the garage that needs to make it’s way upstairs a kitchen table that needs to be cleaned and moved and then the hunt for a free office chair on Craigslist. I have signed on for the long haul mother load of studying for the next 2+ years – pray for me ya’ll. Until next time be well, tell those you love daily that you love them and never forget who you are.

All that jazz

New year, new beginnings and all that jazz right? Let me say I like so many others am very happy to have 2011 done and over with. Last year wasn’t my best year but it wasn’t my worst either. It was just somewhere in the middle the the painful thinfs from the year before (2010) all happened at the end of the year so it made 2011 feel not so great. Ahhhhhh but now we’ve got a chance for a fresh start and life is getting back on track.

I go back to school in 7 short days (whoo hoo!!!). I am excited about that one and for the most part I have overwhelming support in my decision and new choosen career path which makes me even more excited to see how this is all going to pan out.

Next is the sudden arrival back home of my true partner in times – my big sis Jonii (aka as is home) (you should check out her blog here on wordpress good stuff and a good mix of stuff as well). Her arrival wasn’t the way any of us would have planned but she’s here and that’s all that matters.

Next, I am beginning to feel my age in some small ways, my oldest will be 16 in a couple of weeks!!! It’s an odd feeling being on the parental side of 16 but I’m sure it will be a wonderful adventure as life tends to be when one has children. Also this year my little comedian Steve Steve will be starting school thank goodness that’s not until September.

So as you read there is already much to be thankful for in this new year and a lot to look forward too. There are also many dreams that will take root and hopefully grow into great things. I have sooo much to look forward to……I think 2012 is gonna be great!!

Happy New Year and Happy Monday do something wonderful with your day 🙂
